It’s 2022 and I’m watching, incredulous, as fundamentalist ideas about women, men and homosexuality are being pushed into policy and law under the guise of a progressive just-be-kind trans ideology. It’s happening where I am, Aotearoa New Zealand (by some of my oldest friends dammit) and around the world. Feelings presented as facts; harm presented as health; hardcore gender stereotypes presented as liberation. It’s looking grim for democracy and thought and tolerance.

This feels historic, and I want to document what’s happening as it’s happening. I want to explore these ideas, and understand how we got here, and what comes next.

I fully support all people being able to enjoy full, interesting and violence-free lives. Always have, always will. That’s why I’m here.

I’m a Whanganui farm gal who left the awa, and then came home. I am made up of mud, eel slime, freshly-cut hay, bird feathers, and grit.
I’ve been a train driver, a musterer for hire, an agri-politico, a private investigator, and a journalist.

I love falconry, freshwater, and friends, and I take my dog everywhere. But my reason for breathing is writing. It’s what I do. It’s what I have to do.

Resist Gender Education is a diverse group of educators who advocate for the rights of children to reject gender stereotypes and be themselves without discrimination, labelling, or medical intervention to ‘fix’ them.

Science, psychology, politics, and everything else we love to argue about with our friends. Laura has a graduate degree in psychology. She is mother to two little girls. Loves flowers and cooking.

We are not doing a daily doomscroll. We are creating a record of our own dissent against the pseudohistorical, postmodernist pablum and manifold abuses of “gender identity” politics.

I’m a graduate student researching and writing about gender identity from every angle I can think of.
